Clients Goals:

  • Modernize kitchen
  • Remove soffits over wall cabinets and flying soffit over island
  • More meal prep friendly design
  • More storage
  • Better use of corner space as builder grade cabinet layout used blind corners which are awkward
  • Upgrade design with spice storage, pull outs in bases and a large pantry
  • Area where guests could sit and converse while homeowner made meal
  • Better lighting and energy-efficient
  • Nice stone countertop
  • Open kitchen up to living area

We Used:

  • Fabuwood Wellington cabinets in Cinnamon with black glaze from our trade partner Cape Cabinet Depot
  • Installed LED ceiling lights that are only ½″ thick, adjustable color spectrum on fixture and dimmable
  • Installed LED under cabinet lights that are ¾″ tall and dimmable
  • Countertop is TRITON SILVER granite from our trade partners Stone Encounters
  • Flooring is a 20″ x 20″ with 6″ x 6″ ceramic in pin wheel pattern from Floor & Décor
  • Backsplash tile is a polished stone weaved pattern also from Floor & Décor
  • Plumbing was trimmed out by our trade partner Joe’s Plumbing

Design Touches:

  • Flooring was set in a pin wheel pattern using 2 different size tiles to get away from traditional grid pattern or tiles set diagonally
  • Wall cabinets are staggered in height and depth utilizing the additional height that was gained from removing the soffits - used 36″ and 42″ tall upper cabinets in traditional 12″ depths, extended 15″ depths and 24″ over fridge and at pantry
  • Installed 12″ deep wall cabinets on dining room side of island for additional storage for parties
  • Crown molding on tops of staggered cabinets that tie into cathedral ceiling slope
  • Light rail on bottom of wall cabinets to dress under cabinet lighting
  • Used countertop material for backsplash on island and as window sill
  • 9″ Tray bases where upgraded into a 9″ spice pull out and a 9″ silverware/utensil storage
  • Double trash can base cabinet
  • Pantry has 4 pullouts in lower section
  • Double deep upper cabinet over fridge has tray dividers installed on one side
  • Cutlery drawers in island
